  • Born in Huntington, WV, I was raised in a military family travelling the world. Germany, Okinawa, East Coast and West Coast. My dad was an accomplished lead guitarist with numerous bands to include Tex Ritter and Little Jimmy Dickens in the later years. I started my music around 5 yrs. old sawing on an old fiddle. I joke about it and say “most people had living room furniture. We had instruments everywhere to play.” Later I decided to try the bass so I could play more music with my Dad. That led to many gigs as a youngster on stage playing classic country. When my Dad got out of the Army, we moved to Nashville, where he began professional touring and routinely playing at the Grand Ole Opry. I picked up guitar while in High School and continued playing bass with a band which included Michael Card, Christian Artist, until graduation. I chose Air Traffic Control for my career and continued with music on a part time basis.

My band history includes 151 , VENGEANCE and SOUTHERN TASTE, all based out Goldsboro, NC. Some years later while in Wilmington, NC, I played with 3 GO T, THE DIFFERENCE, WHO’S YOUR DADDY, KATIE & JOHN and sat in with POOR NO MORE, MIKE O’DONNELL and KENNEDY PARK.

After moving to South Carolina to finish my Air Traffic career, I played solo due to work schedules, weekend work, etc;. Upon retirement, my goal was to play music as a full time profession.  I love music, entertaining and the energy from the fans. I thank all who have been part of my history.

I am where I’m at now because of where I’ve been.“

Married to Davette Simmons Toppings from Southport/Oak Island, NC.
